The direct impact my sisterhood has had on our congregation, and the local community is the inspiration for my involvement in WRJ. When I became a part of the WRJ District board as a sisterhood president, I quickly found kinship with the other Reform Jewish women I met. I am continually impressed with the scope of WRJ’s work in philanthropy, activism, and leadership training.
WRJ’s support of Youth programs has always been important to me. My two daughters were leaders in their NFTY group and went to a URJ summer camp. I believe these early experiences gave them a good basis for their own journeys as Jewish leaders. They went on to be leaders in their campus Hillel groups in college and continue to be engaged in, and even lead, several Jewish organizations as young adults.
I believe that their development as young Jewish leaders is partly due to my own involvement in WRJ and Sisterhood. They grew up watching me take on leadership roles and have shared in my experiences. They recently told me, as adults, that this upbringing inspired them on their Jewish journeys. I’m so proud of the young women they have become and how much they care about Jewish continuity. It has made my years of dedication to this organization that much more worthwhile.
