Jewish Community Day of Action for Health Care Coverage

February 18, 2014Sarah Greenberg

Today, WRJ joins with our partners in the Jewish community to promote awareness in our communities and nationwide on the importance of health care. This Day of Action, just a few short weeks until open enrollment in the insurance exchanges close at the end of March, continues our work to ensure that all Americans can get quality, affordable coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). WRJ has long been a supporter of access to affordable and comprehensive health insurance. A resolution from 1991, Universal Access to Health Care, calls on WRJ affiliates to support legislation that, “provides universal access to health care, including all aspects of reproductive health care, regardless of age, gender, economic status, health history or current medical condition, with funding made available either through a federal government health care program or in combination with strategies for employers to provide health insurance for their employees.” As has always been the case, WRJ has led our Movement and the national dialogue on the crucial social justice issues of our time. This Day of Action is not a one-time opportunity to engage on these issues. Rather, we can use February 18th to jump start our outreach, reflection, and engagement on the importance of access to health care. Therefore, we’ve collected the following resources for your use now and in the coming weeks. In preparation for today, the Religious Action Center has put together a helpful resource guide and information page, available here. The Administration has been a partner in encouraging enrollment and education on the ACA. The Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Health and Human Services offers a toolkit specifically tailored for faith communities. Also, here are 18 Ways to Participate in the Day of Action from the White House. One of our partners in the Jewish community, the National Council of Jewish Women, also has many resources available for the Day of Action and for continued work on access to health insurance. More information is available here. Here are further WRJ resolutions on this issue: Health Issues (1999), Women’s Health Care (1991)
